Frequently Asked Questions

What is window film?

Window film is a laminate sheet bonded to an adhesive backing. It is usually made out of polyester enhanced with tint and chemicals that deflect the ultraviolet rays of the sun

There are many types of window film. While it is often tinted, it can also be clear, patterned, reflective or non-reflective, with a scratch-resistant coating. Today's window film has come a long way from the original application introduced in the 1970s. Correctly applied, it bonds permanently to glass and seldom splits, bubbles, cracks or peels. Window film can be applied at the time of construction or retro-fitted onto the glass in an existing building.

How does window film work?

LLumar® window film increases the solar reflection (not necessarily visible reflection) and solar absorption of the glass. LLumar have been precision coated with metals. These metallic films are designed to increase the solar energy reflection of the glass and some of the absorption. All LLumar Films are protected with Scratch Resistant coating for long term durability and appearance.

Will tinted windows reduce my ability to see clearly at night?

Absolutely not. Window film does not have the same effect on your windows as sunglasses have on your eyes. Because window film reduces glare, it can actually make night driving safer.

Does window film lose its protective properties overtime?

No, it does not. The UV protection embedded in our window films lasts indefinitely.

How do I care for my window film?

The window film is on the inside of your windows. Therefore, you can use any product you want on the outside of the windows. Clean the inside with mild soap and water. Using an ammonia-based cleaning product may shorten the life of the window film.

What are the legal limits regarding window tint on my car?

Laws affecting the film darkness allowed on vehicles vary by state. Contact GDI to find out the tint laws for your state.

How does security film work?

Thicker polyester and a much thicker, more aggressive adhesive system built using a special micro-layered polyester technology which increases the films tear resistance significantly
